2015 Slammy Awards run-down

Monday Night Raw, live from Minneapolis, Minnesota served as the venue for the latest edition of WWE’s award show, The Slammys.

The Slammy Awards is a tradition begun in 1986 & 1987. The concept was revived in 1994, then again in 1996 & 1997. But it didn’t become an annual fixture until 2008.

The news was broken by ESPN’s Jonathon Coachman Wednesday night, and was officially confirmed by WWE.com the following morning.

Once the depth and seriousness of the injury was known, WWE immediately vacated the World Heavyweight Championship and announced that a tournament would be held November 22nd at Survivor Series to crown a new champion.

Shield “reunions” teasing WrestleMania 32 moment?

When Seth Rollins lended support to former friends turned bitter rivals Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns on the October 19th edition of Monday Night Raw, it stopped the show.

Some may argue that Rollins’s motivations for doing so were flimsy, but no one can deny the awesome drawing power of all three ex-members of The Shield together in the ring simultaneously.

Raw Visits the Windy City

Everytime the Big Fed comes to the city of Chicago, they face a challenge: how to entertain one of the most die-hard sports entertainment audiences in America.

Like New York/New Jersey and St. Louis, Chicago has developed a reputation over the years of being a town that will either love you or hate you, shower you with praise or eat you alive. It is a town where, if you carry a big-time reputation like the WWE, you better bring your very best.

Unfortunately, despite some solid action from some of the company’s best superstars, the crowd was largely unimpressed.

Let’s take a bit of a closer look at Monday Night Raw, live from The Windy City.

“Classic” and “New-school” booking mix to make N.O.C. exciting

This year, Night Of Champions carried on its tradition of making every title in WWE the focal point of the evening. In an age where sometimes belts, particularly any that are not the WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt, can become over-looked, under-played and ignored as central to feuds and story-lines, this was return to classic wrestling booking.

Looking more closely at some of the title bouts from September 20th’s Pay-Per-View event, one can see a re-emergence of classic themes being employed in the booking.

FRIENDS AND ENEMIES CLASH! – Thursday Night Smackdown Recap, Sept 17th 2015

The blue brand invades Little Rock, Texas on its way to Night Of Champions this coming Sunday.

WWE-Smackdown-Logo.0

With a main event involving fan favourites Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose, and top heels Seth Rollins and Sheamus, as well as an undercard boasting Cesaro, Kevin Owens, Dolph Ziggler and members of the Divas Revolution, you would expect a stellar episode. Unfortunately, audiences were instead treated to a couple of good matches with unsatisfying conclusions, two formulaic tag matches with screwy finishes, one great promo followed by a non-match, and extended sequences revolving around Nikki Bella’s “Bella-bration” which were borderline excruciating. Let’s look closer at this ultimately disappointing night of sports entertainment and try to glean some gems from it.

WWE Monday Night Raw – August 10th, 2015

The Pacific Northwest, birth place of grunge music, Starbucks coffee and craft beer, plays host to the Fed’s big red. It’s Raw, live from Seattle!

th

With SummerSlam only two weeks away, the focus turns from the Undertaker/Lesnar main event toward the sometimes neglected WWE Heavyweight Championship picture. With John Cena still out with a facial injury, the contenders begin to knock on the door of champion Seth Rollins. Also, WWE revisits your favourite feuds from earlier this year: Dean Ambrose and Luke Harper; Rusev and Mark Henry; Neville and King Barrett; New Day and Los Matadores. All this, Divas tag action, Miz TV, and special invited guest star Stephen Amell from TV’s “Arrow” finally confronts Stardust.

WWE Thursday Night Smackdown – July 9th, 2015

From the land of beer and beer drinkers, Milwaukee Wisconsin, it’s Raw’s little brother – the blue brand – it’s Smackdown!

WWE-Smackdown-Logo.0

After Brock Lesnar absolutely dismantled both J&J Security along with their $55,000 dollar car (WWE wanted to be sure that everyone watching knew ten times over how much the car cost – I wonder why?), Seth Rollins took to the ring on his own tonight – seemingly – as he faced Ryback in a Champion vs Champion main event match. Also on the program: Rusev puts on his dancing shoes; Dean Ambrose vs Bo Dallas part two, and Roman Reigns vs Big Show part seventeen; the latest edition of “Which Divas do I root for?”; and Randy Orton beats up former NXT tag team champions. All on this week’s edition of Smackdown!

WWE Payback – May 17th, 2015

From Baltimore, Maryland, the WWE brings retribution, redemption and revenge. From Baltimore, the leader in sports entertainment brings Payback!

WWE_Payback_(2015)_Poster

There was blood. There was sweat. There was deceit amid foes and honour amidst friends. The main event saw four of the best the WWE has to offer working together to create a well-crafted contest worthy of note. Although Match of the Night contention might sway toward the Tag Team Championship’s Two out of Three Falls Match, there were few dull spots to be found on this shining exhibition of talent. In some ways, the card did have the feel of a transitional Pay-Per-View. The Elimination Chamber is looming only two weeks away, and contrary to its title many feuds remain hot and without resolution. Overall, though, the event was enthralling and strongly billed. Let’s begin by reviewing the match results…
