The various turns of Ryback

Last Monday on Raw, Ryback left his teammates, The Big Show and Kane, high and dry in quite the heelish move.

When asked why by Rich Brennan, The Big Guy stated a need for solidarity in order to better his career. In what turned out to be a nice little play on verse, he recited, “That glass ceiling? That brass ring? Break it. Take it.”

Coming much as a surprise to fans and commentators alike, this becomes the latest of a many character shift for the man from Las Vegas once known simply as Ryan Reeves. Read more…

Is it over for Wade Barrett?

After a prolonged absence from the ring due to persisting injuries, it appears “Cosmic King / Bad News” Wade Barrett will not be re-signing with WWE when his contract expires in a few months.

The new Voice of Smackdown!

Jerry “The King” Lawler and “Beige” Byron Saxton have new company at the Smackdown announce table Thursday nights. Canadian-born Mauro Ranallo made his successful debut to the program January 7th, 2016.

Attitude change benefits Enzo & Cass

The latest episode of NXT, live from Orlando, saw a new demeanor displayed by Full Sail veteran tag team Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady.

The two Jersey boys, along with their Staten Island princess Carmella, bi-passed their trademark microphone introduction. Instead, they wore stone scowls as they marched unceremoniously to the ring. The normally boisterous duo proceeded to attack their opponents with pure power offense, making short work of Corey Hollis and John Skyler.

Assessing Michael Cole as GM

Last week, Michael Cole announced that he would take over responsibilities as General Manager of NXT while William Regal recovers from neck surgery.

The declaration that Cole was “in charge” received a round of resounding boos from the Full Sail University audience. The reception was not helped by Cole’s first official announcement as GM: that after receiving word from “corporate”, the championship match between Eva Marie and Bayley would happen regardless of Regal’s previous wishes.

Tommy Dreamer returns to WWE Raw!

Former ECW Champion and hardcore legend Tommy Dreamer made his first televised appearance on WWE programming since December 17th, 2012.

The “heart and soul of ECW” and the “innovator of violence” was the ace in the hole for fellow ECW alumni The Dudley Boyz as they were outnumbered by the Wyatt Family. Along with Dreamer and a garbage can full of kendo sticks, the Dudleys extracted a measure of revenge on the Wyatts for their recent attacks.

Billy Gunn fired!

Former Smoking Gunn and New Age Outlaw Monty Kip Sopp, aka Billy Gunn, has been released from his contract with WWE after testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone.

Sopp was a part-time member of WWE’s roster since his return from TNA and the independent circuits in 2012, and also worked on as a trainer.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer, Sopp failed a wellness test at a powerlifting competition on July 25th and subsequently was banned from further competition for four years. WWE was apparently unaware of Sopp’s powerlifting endeavours, and released him upon learning of his suspension from the sport.

Meltzer reports that Sopp’s drug test showed a 37-1 testosterone/epitestosterone ratio, far above the allowable 4-1 ratio.

Cat Power has been competing on the independent circuits in Canada and the US for over a decade. She has held the Pro Wrestling Xtreme Woman’s Championship, the Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling Woman’s Championship, and in 2010 was ranked #42 in Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s Top 50 Female Wrestlers list.

Currently, she finds herself on a career threshold, having recently signed a one-year contract with Japanese promotion REINA. The Daily Jobber sat down with Power to learn more about what led to this huge step in her life as a sports entertainer.
