Hulk Hogan fired!

On Thursday July 23rd 2015, the man who was born Terry Gene Bollea and known to (pretty much literally) the entire world as Hulk Hogan, was released from WWE.

The news is shocking to say the least, and details are still a bit vague as to what precisely precipitated his termination. Thus far, several sources point toward a transcript from a video from eight years ago on which Bollea uses racially offensive comments, including specific and repeated use of the word “nigger”. The video in question is currently under wraps, as it is apparently tied into a court case, so the exact nature of the context cannot be known. As already stated, the details are still scarce. Sources indicate the video was sexual in nature.

Last week’s episode saw the champion Prince Puma in dire straights after an attack from Mil Muertes and Catrina’s Disciples of Death, which left manager Konnan laid out inside a coffin. Prince Puma is set to stand alone and for the first time address the believers. What will his message be? Also, the boss Dario Cueto unveils the fate that’s in store for the worthy competitors who have attained a sacred ancient Aztec medallion so far. With the Ultima Lucha mega-event just two weeks away, it’s time for the show.

Baron Corbin: the anti-wrestler

Thomas Pestock started his wrestling career in 2012, and it took him a while before he found his footing. But when the Baron Corbin character was re-packaged and introduced in September of 2014, the NXT Universe really got behind him. His raw animal magnetism, his impressive physical size and his rebellious look earned him an instant following. Fans, especially the female ones, began exploding whenever his entrance music hit.

In the past months, however, a different crowd reaction has become palpably felt. When Corbin enters Full Sail University these days he is greeted with boos of disapproval, punctuated with jeering chants of “you can’t wrestle”. The once loving fans have turned on the tattooed outlaw.

Corbin currently finds himself at a crossroads in terms of character, and signs are beginning to emerge that he (and the company) are making the right moves to advance his progression as a performer.

Last-minute predictions for WWE Battleground

Tomorrow night, Sunday July 19th 2015, the Scottrade Centre in St. Louis, Missouri will play host to the third annual incarnation of WWE’s newest, non-specifically-gimmicked event to fill the gap between Money in the Bank and SummerSlam: Battleground!

While the history of this event does not exactly inspire the most enthralling of matches (R-Truth vs Curtis Axel for the IC belt – yes, that actually happened), and may boast some of the least satisfying endings in recent history (Jericho going over on Bray Wyatt, Daniel Bryan vs Randy Orton ending in a no-contest when Big Show interfered), this year’s event promises at least a couple of thrills and possible interesting swerves.

Because, let’s face it, some good swerves is the best one can hope for at Battleground. I mean, it’s not like it’s SummerSlam or anything.

What WWE should do with Lana’s character

Since bitterly dissolving her partnership with Rusev after Extreme Rules, the Ravishing Russian Lana has been a manager without a meal-ticket. Since then, she has seemingly decided that managing isn’t really her thing and that she’s much more of a fun-loving romantic at heart, finding herself irresistibly attracted to fellow golden-haired beach body, Dolph Ziggler.

The paradigm shift has been a significant demotion, one disappointing to fans of Lana’s original gimmick.

WWE-Smackdown-Logo.0

After Brock Lesnar absolutely dismantled both J&J Security along with their $55,000 dollar car (WWE wanted to be sure that everyone watching knew ten times over how much the car cost – I wonder why?), Seth Rollins took to the ring on his own tonight – seemingly – as he faced Ryback in a Champion vs Champion main event match. Also on the program: Rusev puts on his dancing shoes; Dean Ambrose vs Bo Dallas part two, and Roman Reigns vs Big Show part seventeen; the latest edition of “Which Divas do I root for?”; and Randy Orton beats up former NXT tag team champions. All on this week’s edition of Smackdown!
